The most common types of residential network connections, DSL and cable Internet connections are usually referred to as broadband connections, but wireless Internet connections may also be referred to as broadband connections. A modem is required to access the Internet using a broadband Internet service. This modem is also required to access the Internet using a Fios or cable modem, which is sometimes referred to as a digital subscriber line (DSL). A router is the necessary component to enable you to connect to these services. You connect your Fios router to your modem and then connect your computer to the Fios router and the Internet.

In order for your Fios router to function as a wireless broadband network hotspot, you need to configure it for wireless addresses. Usually the Fios router offers a default wireless IP address during setup. But if this setting is changed later on, you will need to configure your Fios router again for a static IP address. In most cases, changing the default wireless IP address can be done by visiting the manufacturer’s website and following the steps in the Wireless IP Setup wizard. This wizard will walk you through the process of automatically selecting a static IP address from a pool of possible IP addresses.

One thing that you should keep in mind is that the names of the static IP addresses provided by your Fios router may change during your contract with the company. When this happens, you will need to find a new IP address from the pool of available addresses. It may take several nights to find a compatible, previously used, wireless broadband network in your area that still uses the same WEP key. If you don’t have an alternative wireless option, you will have to pass up on this feature. As long as you are okay with this, however, it is a relatively simple solution.

If you don’t want to change your router’s default setting once you’ve established a wireless connection, there is another solution to address your issue. The simplest way to avoid the need to re-create your wireless network is to opt for a static IP address from the get go. The process is as simple as purchasing a plan with the right bandwidth and Static IP address from your Fios provider. Then, download the included software from the vendor’s website. The software will then enable you to select your existing Fios router and assign an IP address from its list of available static IPs.

For those who wish to change their wireless network after the fact, this can also be accomplished without the software. Simply reset the Fios router to its default (isite) settings. From there, connect to the web wireless network and visit the website of your modem provider. You will likely be prompted to enter the new static IP address.

Another option you have is to perform a manual address assignment process. This process requires a little more work, but not too much. Before starting, make sure you reboot your router. You also need to configure the wireless settings on your computer in order to match the setting on the Fios box. Again, download the included software from the vendor’s website. Once everything is set up, follow the onscreen instructions to successfully complete your address assignment.

If you decide to automate your Fios router’s address assignment, it would be wise to have a friend or relative to help you out. However, most people can successfully do it on their own. There are two steps to this process. First, you will need to go to the Administration tab on your Fios router. Under “routers and connections,” you will see the option to manually assign an IP address to a network interface.

Next, you will need to click on the “IP Settings” tab. From there, you will see a section that says “IP settings” and you will need to enter the IP addresses you want to associate with each computer on your network. When you are done, save all of your settings and restart your router. If your router still fails to connect, then you probably need to contact a technician.
